Five Steps: How to Rent a Moving Truck

August 20, 2009 · Print This Article

There are many different methods of moving these days, and because of the economy, more and more of them are choosing to rent a moving truck rental. Even when you have made this decision, however, there are many other things to think about and get into order. After you have settled on this method, here are five things that you need to do before moving day.

1. Finding a cheap truck rental is the first step after you have decided to rent a moving truck. There are plenty of different companies out there, and you need to make sure that you find one that will not only fit your needs, but fall within your budget as well. Make sure to contact and speak with a variety of different companies before choosing the one that you will rent from.

2. Know what you are getting when you rent a moving truck, as it will be very important on the day of your move. Packing and loading will usually require the use of furniture padding and hand trucks, which may or may not come with your rental. Make sure to look into these additions in advance so that you are not surprised when they are not there and you find that they are needed. Keep in mind that these sometimes require that you pay an extra fee.

3. Schedule the days that you will need the moving truck rental wisely. You do not want to schedule the truck for more time than you need it, but at the same time, you should make sure to have the truck as long enough to get everything moved from your old home into your new one. Choose one way truck rentals for long distance moves, and verify the distance as well as the weather before the day of the move. Always figure in extra time for traffic or other problems that you might run into along the way.

4. Get help packing and loading on moving day. This is a vital step, as you will probably have a rather difficult time handling such tasks on your own. Ask your friends and family to see if any of them would be willing to come over to help that day, and offer them a simple dinner in return. Most people choose something easy like a pizza party the day of the move, not only because everyone will be tired, but because it is a thank you to those who have helped you out.

5. Prepare in advance. This is the most important thing to remember, no matter how close or how far away you are moving. Schedule yourself plenty of time to pack your things before you ever have the truck at your home, and then you will only have to worry about loading. Clean out rooms as you go, and create a staging area where you can store things until the big day. Doing so will make your move go much faster, and be much simpler to endure.
